What Is Dysport®?
Dysport® is a prescription injectable treatment containing abobotulinumtoxinA, a type A botulinum toxin product.
It is FDA-approved for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe glabellar lines associated with the activity of the muscles between the eyebrows in adults younger than 65 years of age.
Dysport temporarily reduces the activity of selected muscles responsible for repeated frowning. As these muscles relax, the lines between the eyebrows may appear softer and less noticeable.
Unlike dermal fillers, Dysport does not add facial volume. It addresses muscle activity rather than volume loss.
What Are Glabellar Lines?

Glabellar lines are the vertical lines that appear between the eyebrows, often called “11 lines.”
They develop as the corrugator and procerus muscles repeatedly contract during expressions such as frowning, concentrating, or reacting to bright light. Over time, these lines may remain visible even when the face is at rest.
Dynamic and Static Frown Lines
Dynamic lines appear primarily during facial movement. Static lines remain visible when the facial muscles are relaxed.
Because Dysport targets muscle activity, it is especially useful for expression-related frown lines. Deep static lines may soften after treatment but may not disappear completely.

How Does Dysport® Work?

Dysport® vs. BOTOX® Cosmetic: What Is the Difference?
Dysport® and BOTOX® Cosmetic are both prescription neuromodulators formulated with botulinum toxin type A, but they are different products.
Dysport contains abobotulinumtoxinA, while BOTOX Cosmetic contains onabotulinumtoxinA. The products have different formulations, preparation methods, and dosing systems.
Dysport units cannot be compared with or converted directly into BOTOX Cosmetic units or the units of any other botulinum toxin product.
The right neuromodulator depends on your facial anatomy, muscle activity, previous treatments, preferences, and clinical evaluation. Your provider will explain which option may be most appropriate for your individual goals.
What Happens During a Dysport® Appointment?
Your appointment begins with a consultation to review your concerns, medical history, medications, allergies, and previous botulinum toxin treatments.
Your provider will examine your facial expressions and identify the muscles responsible for your frown lines. The treatment area will then be cleansed, and Dysport will be administered with a fine needle into specific points between and above the eyebrows.
The FDA-approved treatment pattern for glabellar lines uses five injection points. The complete appointment generally takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes, although the duration may vary according to the consultation and individual treatment plan.
Most patients can return to their usual daily routine after the appointment. Your provider will give you personalized aftercare instructions.
When Will I See Dysport® Results?
Some patients may begin to notice a change within 24 hours, while results typically become noticeable within two to three days.
