Dysport® Treatment in Mason, Ohio
At Regenerative Aesthetics in Mason, Ohio, we offer personalized Dysport® treatments for adults who want to temporarily improve moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows.
Each treatment begins with an individual facial assessment. We evaluate your facial anatomy, muscle movement, treatment history, and aesthetic goals before determining whether Dysport is an appropriate option for you.
Our approach focuses on softening prominent expression lines while helping you maintain a natural, refreshed appearance.
What Is Dysport®?
Dysport® is a prescription injectable treatment containing abobotulinumtoxinA, a type A botulinum toxin product.
It is FDA-approved for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe glabellar lines associated with the activity of the muscles between the eyebrows in adults younger than 65 years of age.
Dysport temporarily reduces the activity of selected muscles responsible for repeated frowning. As these muscles relax, the lines between the eyebrows may appear softer and less noticeable.
Unlike dermal fillers, Dysport does not add facial volume. It addresses muscle activity rather than volume loss.
What Are Glabellar Lines?
Frown Lines Between the Eyebrows
Glabellar lines are the vertical lines that appear between the eyebrows, often called “11 lines.”
They develop as the corrugator and procerus muscles repeatedly contract during expressions such as frowning, concentrating, or reacting to bright light. Over time, these lines may remain visible even when the face is at rest.
Dynamic and Static Frown Lines
Dynamic lines appear primarily during facial movement. Static lines remain visible when the facial muscles are relaxed.
Because Dysport targets muscle activity, it is especially useful for expression-related frown lines. Deep static lines may soften after treatment but may not disappear completely.
During your consultation, we will evaluate the depth of your lines and explain what type of improvement may reasonably be expected.
How Does Dysport® Work?
Facial muscles contract when they receive signals from nearby nerves. Dysport temporarily reduces the release of the chemical messenger involved in this process.
When administered into carefully selected muscles between the eyebrows, Dysport reduces the repetitive contractions that create prominent frown lines.
The treatment is localized and temporary. Untreated facial muscles continue to move normally, allowing you to maintain expression in the surrounding areas.
Dysport® vs. BOTOX® Cosmetic: What Is the Difference?
Dysport® and BOTOX® Cosmetic are both prescription neuromodulators formulated with botulinum toxin type A, but they are different products.
Dysport contains abobotulinumtoxinA, while BOTOX Cosmetic contains onabotulinumtoxinA. The products have different formulations, preparation methods, and dosing systems.
Dysport units cannot be compared with or converted directly into BOTOX Cosmetic units or the units of any other botulinum toxin product.
The right neuromodulator depends on your facial anatomy, muscle activity, previous treatments, preferences, and clinical evaluation. Your provider will explain which option may be most appropriate for your individual goals.
What Happens During a Dysport® Appointment?
Your appointment begins with a consultation to review your concerns, medical history, medications, allergies, and previous botulinum toxin treatments.
Your provider will examine your facial expressions and identify the muscles responsible for your frown lines. The treatment area will then be cleansed, and Dysport will be administered with a fine needle into specific points between and above the eyebrows.
The FDA-approved treatment pattern for glabellar lines uses five injection points. The complete appointment generally takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes, although the duration may vary according to the consultation and individual treatment plan.
Most patients can return to their usual daily routine after the appointment. Your provider will give you personalized aftercare instructions.
When Will I See Dysport® Results?
Some patients may begin to notice a change within 24 hours, while results typically become noticeable within two to three days.
The appearance of the frown lines should continue to improve as the targeted muscles respond to treatment. Individual onset and final results vary.
Clinical studies included in the FDA prescribing information showed that Dysport may reduce the severity of glabellar lines for up to four months.
Dysport is temporary. Repeat treatment should not be administered more frequently than once every three months.
Will Dysport® Make Me Look Frozen?
The goal of a personalized Dysport treatment is not to eliminate every facial expression.
Careful assessment, precise placement, and appropriate treatment planning can soften prominent frown lines while preserving movement in untreated areas of the face.
Results depend on facial anatomy, muscle strength, dosage, placement, and individual response. Your preferred level of correction will be discussed during your consultation.
Who May Be a Candidate for Dysport®?
Dysport may be considered for adults younger than 65 years of age who want to temporarily improve moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows.
A consultation is required because Dysport is not appropriate for everyone. Before treatment, tell your provider about:
• Any botulinum toxin treatment received in the previous months
• All prescription and nonprescription medications
• Muscle, nerve, swallowing, or breathing conditions
• Previous facial surgery or planned facial procedures
• Pregnancy or plans to become pregnant
• Breastfeeding
• Allergies, including allergy to cow’s milk protein
• Previous reactions to botulinum toxin products
• Infection, irritation, or inflammation near the proposed injection sites
Who Should Not Receive Dysport®?
You should not receive Dysport if you have an infection at a proposed injection site or a known allergy to Dysport, its ingredients, another botulinum toxin product, or cow’s milk protein.
Certain medical conditions and medications may increase the risk of complications. A complete medical review is therefore necessary before treatment.
Dysport® Side Effects and Important Safety Information
Temporary reactions may occur following Dysport injections. These can include injection-site pain or irritation, headache, bruising, swelling, eyelid swelling, or eyelid drooping.
Dysport and other botulinum toxin products carry a boxed warning regarding the possible spread of toxin effects beyond the injection area.
Seek immediate medical attention if you develop difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing; generalized muscle weakness; double or blurred vision; loss of bladder control; or symptoms of a serious allergic reaction.
Symptoms associated with the spread of toxin effects may occur hours to weeks after treatment. Discuss the complete benefits, limitations, and risks with your healthcare provider before receiving Dysport.
